Austage Events was proud to work with ICMS Australasia and Supertribe to deliver the 2020 University of Melbourne MD Student conference online.
Traditionally, a multi-day event for 1400+ attendees, the student run conference needed to quickly adjust their delivery with the challenges presented by COVID-19.
Austage provided the studio space to record hundreds of hours of content ta to be delivered across the four day program, and live-streamed the final day’s keynotes from our Melbourne and Sydney studios.
Each year the team have the pleasure of working on a three-day conference in some of Australia’s most beautiful locations.
The 2019 Dexar Convention, held in the gorgeous setting of Kingscliff, in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, challenged the team to provide AV across three separate and unique venues, after carefully transporting all production equipment from Sydney on an 8-tonne truck.
Eight technical staff from Canberra, Sydney, the Central Coast and Brisbane, were brought in to assist with the production, led by Senior Production & Account Manager, George Kastoun. The team provided all production across the venues including, Vision, Sound, Draping, Staging, Logistics and all production equipment.
The 250 pax event, held across three venues – Babalou (Welcome Party), Fins at Plantation House (Jungle Party) and Peppers Salt Resort & Spa (Convention) – each required a different look and feel; the team carefully planned the equipment taken up to deliver this. Features to ‘wow’ guests included a game show with light up podiums which buzzed when contestants struck them, dance floors, coloured up lighting in the trees and in/outdoor entertainment.
With only 3-months preparation, the team delivered an exceptional event experience.
“The care and the passion you have shown for this event is without compare. And we thank you for ensuring sponsors had power, that the room lighting looked incredible and the little touches that made the difference. We could not put on an event of that calibre without an AV team that was as committed as we are.”
“The team were so professional, so dedicated, and passionate. You also have such gorgeous hearts and souls. Once again, it has been a pleasure to see you work your AV magic to deliver us a high quality event, loved by all.”
“Your team are simply the best at whatever you do. Your level of knowledge and expertise is unmatched, but where you all constantly excel is your communication, dedication and service focus … plus you are great blokes.”
Many thanks to our client for their considerate and welcomed words of appreciation. It was our pleasure – looking forward to the next one. From the Austage Team!

Austage Events recently partnered with the Atlantic Group and Solution Entertainment to host ‘The Future of Events’ showcase, highlighting the unique venue spaces contained within Shed 14 Docklands. The showcase was spread across the entirety of the Atlantic’s premium spaces at Shed 14.
Entering via Sketch Restaurant, the guests were greeted first by our custom 4m circular LED screen. They then made their way into Sumac where we had utilised ultra-wide screen video projection as a wall feature.
On to Maia, which held our 4m LED DJ surround showpiece, and then finally finishing in the Peninsula room which contained a selection of 4mm LED screens as well as wall and screen projection. The live entertainment, supported by our Outline Audio FOH line-array and fold-back system, performed with our 6mm indoor/outdoor LED Panels used as a stage backdrop.
This was all complimented with an outstanding lighting show (created by Resolution X) and live acts and entertainment (organised by Solution Entertainment) to highlight the quality and variety of events that can be delivered in the exceptionally diverse venue of Atlantic.

When we were approached to project video on to nine shipping containers, stacked 3×3, we knew we were in for a treat.
Working with the City of Joondalup to provide audio and visual for the main stage, Austage Events Perth was tasked with building the canvas on which 20 years of arts and culture in Joondalup were celebrated.
Locking 20 tons of shipping container into place for the projection surface was the first piece of the puzzle. Once in place, two double-stacked Panasonic 20K projectors created an image that would let shine the vivid colours of the festival.
Special mention to Roly Skender of Frankensound who created the amazing video content for the evening, and all of the fantastic artists, performers, and volunteers who made the Joondalup Festival so magical. It was a joy to be a part of this great event for the City of Joondalup.

To kick off 2018, we got to work (and play) providing all technical production for the launch of Asics’ “I Move Me” campaign featuring Novak Djokovic, a global Tennis star.
Working with Light Year Productions and their tech partner, Exposure, we created a fully interactive tennis court in a secret Melbourne basement. Showcasing real training drills Djokovic would do in preparation for the 2018 Australia Open.
To replicate a tennis court, we built a custom covered stage with additional flats along the wall to create the play area. With the correct surface constructed, the image from 8 projectors were blended to achieve a seamless projection, encompassing the floor and wall.
Minimising shadows and keeping the image looking crisp was paramount with guests running, jumping and simulating tennis moves on the surface. It was an interesting challenge, not least with the tight pre-production time that we worked with, but with 8 short throw projectors and a Christie Spyder seamlessly blending the image, we thought the end result was pretty special.
Some simple room lighting added to the ambience but we were mindful not to take anything away from the hero: the tennis court. General lighting was also fitted for the media who turned out to interview Djokovic.
As always, we would like to thank our amazing client, Light Year Productions. Not to mention Exposure, who created the content, as well as Alt/Shift PR agency. And finally, the people whose dream we made a reality, Asics.

Best known for his iconic role as “Hikaru Sulu” from the acclaimed Star Trek series and feature films; George Takei treated Sydney and Melbourne with a rare and intimate evening each. Hosted by Australia’s own journalist and author, Benjamin Law, George shared stories from his incredible career to his equally incredible life.
The single objective of our custom created technical production was to complement the simple and elegant interview format. Along with the stage set up, all designed to focus on the revealing and insightful dialogue.
As the conversation flowed, content consisting of rare footage and images were projected onto the large format screens and lighting would correspond to the tone of the conversation. This was a fantastic show to deliver and an honour to work with such a film and television legend.

North Metropolitan TAFE ‘The Graduates 2017’ Fashion Show
Austage provided all the Technical Production for the NMT Fashion Show, showcasing the fashion created by the students in Western Australia. Each year, Austage Perth endeavour to bring something new to the table through Audio Visual Productions to highlight all the NMT Fashion Students’ hard work.
Government House Ballroom was the new venue chosen this year to hold the annual event. A 14m catwalk was installed to run off the existing venue stage and we utilised the curved ceiling to projection map custom content based on the 17x students displaying their work. Each student had their own designs mapped onto the ceiling and their name “keyed” over the top.
LED lighting was also used to wash the rest of the ceiling as well as the archways around the room which was programmed to complement each category and the students work. This made it a truly unique Audio-Visual experience for everyone but most importantly, the guests.
Live cameras were used to capture and record the event, as well as stream footage backstage to keep all the models and timings on track.

As well as providing specialised equipment for the Sensory Xploration Hub and Therapy Scholarships at Kids are Kids. The event raised over $230,000 for the worthy causes.
We provided all Audio, Vision and Lighting for the event’s festivities. The Main Stage Screen feature; a 15m x 3.4 Ultra-Wide screen was accompanied by two portrait screens with a live camera feed.

Each year, Adventure World holds a Halloween celebration. Where ghosts, ghouls and Audio Visual come together for the annual Fright Nights. Theme park revellers can scare themselves silly on the rides and attractions after dark as well as being entertained by extreme aerial stage shows and a gruesome special effects booth.
