Melbourne Fashion Week 2025

2025 was a special Melbourne Fashion Week for Austage, marking 20 years of working on the event with the incredible City of Melbourne team. Here are some of the highlights!

Student Collections Runway – Younghusband

An always popular fixture on the Melbourne Fashion Week calendar, the Student Collections Runway is a platform for emerging designers to debut their graduate collections and make a statement on an industry stage.

This year the event transformed former woolstore, Younghusband from blank canvas into an immersive, technically ambitious runway, blurring the lines between front of house and back of house with glimpses production aspects that usually remain invisible to the audience.

The show featured live catwalk and backstage visuals wrapped around a purpose-built 12m × 12m cube in the centre of the venue, which also served as the model’s backstage area and entry point onto the runway.

We deployed 10 projectors mapped across 100+ metres of projection surface, with signal distribution managed via a Barco E2 and S3. The action was captured with two manned cameras and three remote cameras, switched live through a Blackmagic 4ME Production Switcher.

Audio was delivered through an Outline CX speaker system, complemented by L-Acoustics X8s and KS21 subs, creating an atmospheric soundscape to complement the live runway experience. The showcaller’s cues were also incorporated into the audio mix to give the audience a unique real-time insight into the mechanics of a live runway show.

Closing Runway – 101 Collins Street

The Melbourne Fashion Week Closing Runway event is always an opportunity to turn up the glam factor to eleven and the 2025 edition was no exception!

Set within the opulent marble foyer of 101 Collins Street, this M/FW runway transformed a corporate landmark into a striking fashion stage with live performances from Odette and Vivid Strings.

Spanning over 200 metres of catwalk, the show demanded precise technical coordination to ensure attendees in all areas of the large venue had an unforgettable experience.

A fully wireless, distributed JBL PA system supported the live performers and was managed across two dedicated audio control positions due to the unconventional nature of the event space.

Vision included four 2m × 1m LED screens, two 12K Panasonic laser projectors, three remote cameras and two manned cameras to maintain dynamic coverage throughout the expansive space.
